CASEd Mother's Day Mini

Yeah...the pink is very...um...pinky???? Actually, I sprayed ONE coat of Tattered Angels Party Pink Glimmer Mist and boy howdy, it was one HELL of a party! A Pepto Bismol party, but party nonetheless. I put THREE coats of white acrylic paint over the ONE coat of pink. Can you imagine what it looked like? I hope not. This is my first mixed media attempt and I used the walkthrough from butterfly kisses. I also CASEd her book. The walkthroughs are here

One thing I learned is that if you purchase the G45 12x12, 2 8x8's, the 6x6 and all the chipboard, stickers, pocket tags and banners, you'll have one AWESOME mini book! Never mind that it'll cost you about 50 bucks per book!! It'll make you look like the crafting goddess everyone thinks I am!! (They DO think that...right?)  Thanks G45...thanks for creating all of this with only a crafter's happiness in mind, and not for filthy profit like the rest!! GAK!

This book was pretty easy...the entire thing isn't here, just in case mamacita decides to check out my blog. It was time consuming but I case a lot from butterfly kisses because she uses lots of accessories and her projects don't require the heavy artistic talent like xannero and myautumnsunset
and for that, I'm TOTALLY appreciative!!

INCREDIBLE DEAL ALERT!!!!

I got 5 pocket pages, cut from G45 new lightweight chipboard and, with shipping, it was just over 4 bucks!!!! Becky of Becky's craft room (beckyscraftroom@yahoo.com) does custom work for regular prices. She's got more Accucut stuff than...well...Accucut! Custom dies, etc. Also has a Pazzles and tons of items on hand or custom made, most with same-day shipping. I have not been compensated for this endorsement, btw. I'm just sharing the deals, baby! It's heaven for me because I have no intention of purchasing an Accucut or their dies for the occasional minis I do. But it's cheaper to order from her than doing it myself. How? Because you dull your cutting blades, find it impossible to cut AND score on chipboard, etc. She also has supplies. Send her an email and tell her Carmen-your personal icon and cult personality for the new millineum-suggested you purchase from her. You can also tell her that pretty much anything your idol (me) says to do, you find yourself compelled to do it. Well, you get the drift.

That's it for this project...I'll post the rest of the pics after Mother's Day.

Remember, I love YOU! If you love ME, please subscribe to my blog!! I'll return the favor!! If not, I'll hunt you down and go all Katniss Everdeen on your a**. That's right...a la' Hunger Games. So don't take chances...subscribe today! Mwaaah!

Diary of A Desperate Housewife-Easter Greetings

Spring.
It’s a time of rebirth and renewal.
That is, unless you happen to be me and stuck with your Kid’s first grade spring recital.
It began with a phone call.
“I’m so glad I caught you at home.” The familiar, patronizing voice oozed from the receiver.
“No habla ingles.” I said, desperately.
“You are so funny.” Ms. Parisi said in a voice that let me know I was in no way amusing to her.
Ms. Parisi was the Kid’s teacher and had been for the last two years. She loathed me and was so professional in making me feel incompetent, I knew her management position would be safe even if the Devil did decide to downsize Hell.
“We need a parent to coordinate the spring recital.”
“Uh, I really don’t know anything about stuff like that. Really.” I tried to keep the panic out of my voice.
Ms. Parisi ignored me. “We need you to put together the play. The other volunteers will meet you this afternoon at three.”

When I arrived, the other parents were staring at me accusingly.
“Hi, any ideas for the play?” I said, in what I hoped was a calm voice.
There was a mutinous muttering but I made sure not to look them directly in the eyes so certain tragedy, probably involving dismemberment, was temporarily avoided.
One mother finally spoke up. “There’s this cute play about an Easter egg trying to find a basket he belongs to. He’s all sorts of colors so the blue eggs don’t want him and neither do the red. In the end, he realizes how unique he is and how much he has in common with everyone. It’s all about learning to be happy in your own skin.”
One of the other mothers threw her a disgusted look. “Is that skin botoxed? If so, some people here should be awfully comfortable already.”
“Okay, ladies.” I tried to sound firm but friendly. “We have to get a recital going here. It’s the Easter Egg with the identity issues play. Is everyone in agreement?”
I took their heavy silence as an affirmative.
“I think it would be cute to have someone dress up as the Easter bunny and hand out treats before the show.” A woman spoke up from the back. “I’d be glad to do it!”
I jumped on her offer at once, completely ignoring the wide eyes and slight head shakes of the other parents.
“Terrific. Rehearsal starts tomorrow at three.”
I managed to walk nonchalantly to the door, feeling the weight of their glares. Once outside, I broke into a run.

The opening night of the play found me struggling to refrain from mayhem directed onto my own offspring.
“Mommy, this play is really stupid.” The Kid tried to put his hands on his hips but was prevented from doing so by the egg costume he wore.
“Look, Kid. Eddie the Egg is a great play. Well, maybe not great but the dance routine that Karen’s two daddies put together really gives it a spark.” I said, trying to stuff more newspaper through the Kid’s armpit holes.
“The dance routine is dumb too. What’re jazz hands, anyway?” He sulked.
“Look, I don’t like it anymore than you do and if I’d known my karma would involve my being roped into this, I certainly would’ve done things a little differently like donate a kidney or eyeball just for the heck of it. Both would be less painful than this.”
I pushed the Kid toward his basket and took a final look around. The play was done and I felt confident I’d finally shown Ms. Parisi that I wasn’t a total waste of atmosphere. Feeling pretty good about myself in general, I watched as the Easter Bunny came hopping through the back of the auditorium doors to the delight of the children in the audience. I had to say the volunteer mom was doing a great job. She was really getting into it. She hopped, then danced a bit, tossing candy to the kids as she worked the crowd.
“She’s great!” I said enthusiastically to two other mothers nearby.
They raised their eyebrows in unison and stared over my shoulder.
The Easter Bunny was now gyrating and slinging candy at everyone. The candies were hard and the people who were getting pelted were crying out in pain.
“My eye!” someone yelled.
As if that were her cue, the Easter Bunny stopped and removed her costume head. Several children screamed in horror. The screams were followed by moans of disgust as the Bunny threw up in her basket. Then she replaced her costume head, stumbled to the nearest seat and collapsed. I could hear her snores from backstage.
“That’s MaryAnn.” One mother said. “She’s supposed to be in rehab but skipped out.”
“We tried to tell you.” The other mother said, accusingly.
Mercifully, the parent acting as stage director was on top of things and sprung into action. The lights went out and the kids took the stage. Half of them spent the entire play trying to either stuff newspaper back into their costumes or remove it entirely. The dance number was hit but only because the kids refused to dance and Karen’s two daddies performed the entire routine on the floor in front of the stage, jazz hands and all.
Eddie the Egg decided to join up with the blue eggs instead of the multi-colored ones and, halfway through the play, the Bunny woke up and started to sing Barbara Streisand’s ‘People’.
The audience sat, frozen. The chaos on stage ground to a halt.
“Hey, we’re through. You need to clap.” An angry, red egg yelled at the crowd.
I’m sure that, at some point, Ms. Parisi took the stage and ‘thanked’ me for my efforts; I wouldn’t have known. I dragged the Kid out the emergency exit and sped home where I tossed the Kid, egg costume and all, into bed.
“But Mommy, how am I supposed to sleep like this?”
“The same way I deal with going to sleep with the same man who promised to love and cherish me forever, then took away my call waiting, which is why I’m in this state of humiliation. You’ll find a way to cope.”
When my husband came home, I was curled up on the couch in a fetal position and unable to speak.
He stared for a moment, sighed and handed me a bag. “I figured. That’s why I brought you this.”
Inside, there was a chocolate bunny and a bottle of vodka.
I might make it through Easter, after all.

Pink-Eye, Nits and the Joys of Crafting

Yeah, yeah...I know. It's been over a month! I gave so many people hope!! Hope that the silliness I regurgitate on this blog, might somehow be on permanent hiatus!

But how could I do that to you?

We ALL need aggravating people in our lives. Think about it...if there were suddenly no irritating people, you wouldn't appreciate the wonderful things in your life! Like hot baths, clean clothes and anti-anxiety meds!!

People like me are your own personal silver polish rag! You hate you have to use the filthy thing, but BOY...does that silver shiiiiine?!?!?!?!?!?!

Wait...did I really just compare myself to a silver polishing rag? Crap. Apparently, this break made me a little rusty with my metaphors. My bad. Sorry.

I have a wedding coming up and, as a special request, the Bride requested a handmade card from me! She didn't give me an invitation to the wedding, but at LEAST she likes my work, even if she doesn't like me!

Kidding...I told her I couldn't come due to having pink-eye. I love pink-eye...between it and lice, there's no better way to get out of pretty much any function if people think your kids have been exposed. But that's another instructional and inspirational story for another day.

The past month, I became (re)addicted to mini albums. I made 3: One with my Sizzix Ornate Tri-Fold Card die, with a tie binding, one with the hidden hinge system and pocket pages, and one with the Cinch binding system.

Ok...the Cinch SHOULD'VE been used but it turned out that my husband had to DRILL HOLES BY HAND along the edge of the book. This was a lesson in punching holes before decorating your chipboard pages. Sigh.

I CASEd (and when I say 'copy', I mean COPY-Hey-it's how I learn, homies!) from youtube tutorials by a girl, mybutterflykisses, who works for Graphic 45. I'll put her link at the bottom. Her work is mostly papercrafting and decorating....it's not heavy duty artistic like another girl from the design team whom I adore (xannero?) but find CASEing her impossible. She's untouchable. But butterfly kisses girl is more my style...the more stuff you put on there, the better it looks, and we ALL know I'm all about heaping as many accoutrements as possible on any given work. Here's a look-see at my work this past month:

Graphic 45 Easter Shadowbox

  (CASEd from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orSypfrFCgw)

I used Graphic 45 Sweet Sentiments paper. The large, white flower is one of my 'scunch' flowers, the tiny white ones are punches, the rest are a' la Michaels. I used flocking and stickles to bring out the inside (btw...found the little clay planting pots at Michaels and painted with Tim Holtz white crackle paint. The miniature flowers I took and arranged, sticking them into some clay at the bottom and filling up the pot with glossy accents) and used about 14 pounds of Mod Podge on everything. I'm not sure if I like Mod Podge because it works or because the smell is a bit attractive. Hmmm.

Bird Song album with hidden hinge. CASEd from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMLmeM97lNM

Here's the album cover and the top to the paper mache' box I covered with paper and decorated to put the book in.

NOW...I've got to include this link because this girl blows me away. ALL of her stuff is done WITHOUT the expensive G45 stuff. This video is the one I saw first and desperately wanted to CASE. She is phenomenal. Her name is Paveenah. Here's her video re: Bird Song. Do yourself a favor and check her out. Btw...she doesn't bother with chipboard! She takes old BOOKS and makes her albums!! Wait until you see!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8mBk2xWp4o&list=UUw8JT5cnKNNELWH0or4gPzg

Next, my sister's album. Made from a pad of tea party paper and the idea for using the die and the tie hinge system came from butterfly kisses. I stumbled on it one day and now can't find it. She has over 600 videos. Give me a break!!! BUT, I DID happen to stumble on THIS video and any time someone b*tches that you have too much stuff, here ya go!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yzfyUAkgN0  You and I will never have to be worried about overkill after seeing this. HAH!

I'll save the other mini album until I give it to my mom. I don't want to blow the surprise. :)

That's all for today...you people have worn my a** OUT! Because of your demands, I have to eat some cake and take a nap. I hope you're happy with the way you've pushed me to the brink!

WAIT! I thought I was talking to my husband for a sec!! Wrong script!! Let me try again.

Thanks for stopping by today! See you soon!

Let's get to the business at hand, first. I made it back in time to join the FMS Sketch Challenge and, having a wedding on the way, decided to kill two birds with one stone.

I embossed a strip of white cardstock with a brocade lace embossing folder. I used mounting tape on the strip and placed three of my handmade 'scunch' flowers across the bottom, the layers cut from my Heartfelt Creations die. Above that, two rings cut with circle dies and tied with real lace trim becomes the final touch. The card is mounted on embossed gold cardstock.

If you love to create and you love CAS, then come on over to FMS! You still have time to enter!!

I've been such a slacker!!! Time to pull it all together and tell you about Stamp-n-Storage!!

I want to start by saying that I've been purchasing SNS products since August 2013, and have documented the before and after shots each month on Splitcoaststampers.com. I mean to move it to my blog but I believe that you, dear reader, know that I'm constantly a day late and a dollar short-as the old adage goes-so you can't be TOO surprised I've taken this long. Back in December, I won a 50 dollar rebate in their monthly drawing. I wanted to let you know this for disclosure's sake AND that I have not been paid or prompted to endorse for this company. I'm doing this because I'm proud of my craft room and this company is incredibly special; I really want you to take a closer look at them and put them at the top of your list when it comes time to purchase storage.

Here's some before shots of the nightmare that was my craft room and the crappy storage I tried to make use of BEFORE SNS.

I said that I bet I had Ebola hiding in here somewhere. And tetanus. And a couple of those water bugs. I hate bugs beyond comprehension.

I'd rather have Ebola.

Anyway, I saw SNS in an ad on Splitcoast and it appealed to my OCD nature. Yes. I'm clinically OCD. Not the good kind, where my house is always clean, but the one that makes me rip cards up because something is askew enough to trigger it. I have mini panic attacks when it comes to mounting or stamping...I'm never without my Stamp-a-ma-jig or my dental floss for immediately peeling a paper layer up because of the whole askew thing I mentioned.

So, I ordered my first two pieces from SNS. An ink holder for my Tim Holtz and one for my flat punches.

That's all it took. Here's how it grew over the next 4 months.

(At this time, I set up 2 six-foot tables to my right and moved everything over. It was too crowded to work, even with the organization. Besides, y'all DANG well know I wasn't through!)

I took this in mid-Dec. By this time, I was starting to refine my choices. I knew I needed a ribbon holder for all the craziness to the left. I had also outgrown my Stampin Up ink holder and knew I would not only need one more, but would need to accommodate my growing reinker collection. There was only one problem. SNS only offered this:

My OCD peeps will know IMMEDIATELY why this ink pad combo holder wasn't an option for me. Remember I mentioned needing storage for my ink refills? I didn't say anything about pens. I don't use SU! pens. So here's a quick lesson in OCD...if I ordered this thing, I would go nuts until I could fill all the marker holes with the corresponding markers. It didn't matter if I never used them in my life. Filling them with markers I used wasn't an option because it wouldn't match the ink. Those without OCD are sneering at me right now. That's ok. You can kiss my...OK JESUS....IM TRYING HERE...sigh. It was easier before He and I started talking again. Ok, ok...easier before He talked and I listened.

I call Brett Haugen-he and his lovely wife own the company-and explained my dilemma. He said "No problem. I'll just custom make you one with just the refill holder."

"Great," I said. "How much extra will it be?"

Pause here...yes...I know that the custom job seems less work without having to drill marker holes but I also know that I know NOTHING about woodworking/business/much of anything and the bottom line is that it IS a custom job!. I'm a Capitalist, people. If I order a custom piece, I know there's going to be a premium. I don't have a problem with this. Except that I WAS a little taken aback when he said:

"Nothing extra. I'll get right on it."

WTF???

But far be it from me to argue!!!

As I write this, my craft room is 2 pieces short of being finished. While it's addictive, I have to put the brakes on it eventually because I'll run out of room for storage. That's a conundrum I don't want to play at.  Here's what I have now:

The last two pieces I'm ordering are another large die tote with magnetic sheets and another whale-tail punch holder.

I won the contest after this order, so I have my 50 bucks to play with. That'll help with this order. However, I've got a FEW more things to do and I want to share a few mistakes I made with this room in hopes you won't make the same mistakes. Pay attention:

1-I should've gone with my gut and not talked myself out of ordering the ink pad/refill holder the first time. Now, I'm going to have to order another down the road. Why? Because I love SU! ink and I have to have the refills. I filled up the first 60 pad holder a couple of weeks after receiving it but am now transferring a lot of the ink to the new one because I have the refill. Soon, I'll run out of space on the new and be stuck with an empty pad holder, which I can still use but I'll have to put the reinkers in a drawer and I'm back to square one. That being said, the good news is that this holder, while it fits SU! ink perfectly, there's a way to customize it in minutes to fit almost ANY ink pad from ANYWHERE. Here, you can check if yours fit.  Go here if yours will fit...it explains how to make them.

2-Ditto with the Tim Holtz. I use the distress markers a great deal and need the combo holder over what I have. Same thing with the marker holder. Got the basic, need the bigger one that allows me to separate into color groups.

3-If you're a serious crafter, order the units so that they connect to the wall. My husband didn't want me to do that because he didn't want to have to drill holes in the wall that he'd have to fix and repaint over the years. Now, he regrets it because I can't grow my storage UP. Take that into consideration. Again...go with your gut. The money I thought I was saving ended up costing me more to get what my gut said to go with in the first place!!!!

Lastly, I want to share this with you. For many years, I was a self-proclaimed atheist. I gave up on God. Not that it mattered to Him, because He never gave up on me. I'm a work in progress. My humor is still ribald and my language deplorable but I'm trying. Always trying. :)

I made the decision several years ago to, no matter how short money got, never buy products from China or any other country but my own. While it's impossible to do 100% of the time, it's becoming easier. I also decided I would support companies who shared my beliefs. Hobby Lobby is a big one. I go there first. Always. Brett Haugen and Stamp-N-Storage is another. In every package, you receive a CD that shares the love of Our Savior, Jesus Christ, and the Gospel. Brett states that he is humbled that you have chosen to spend your money on his products and that the focus is well-made products, good prices, emphasis on customer service but that the main purpose of the business is the opportunity to share the Gospel. I like that.

Lastly, before you think you'd be 'wasting money' on storage and could be buying stamps instead-well-I said the same thing. However, I found myself repeat buying things I'd forgotten I'd bought and running out of others because I had things crammed in drawers. It cost me money to be disorganized. I also had problems completing things. Mostly due to having an idea and spending so much time searching for crap that I either lost interest or forgot what I was looking for.

In closing, I have not been asked to do this, nor have I been promised anything or prompted...I looked around this morning and realized I'd been meaning to do this comprehensive post for awhile, but always put it in the background in order to craft. This morning, I have a toothache from Hell and don't feel like doing anything. The only reason I'm doing THIS is to try to stay distracted!

I'm off to put an aspirin on my tooth. Sure fire way to make it stop hurting. My doctor doesn't like the method but unless he's going to give me morphine, then to heck with him.

Love y'all! And a special thanks to Stamp-N-Storage for giving people like me an option to support a business built by faith and run with a higher purpose. It's an honor to trust MY name and reputation with SNS! Not that either is worth much. If anything.

Lord...where is that aspirin????

My Mum's Craft Shop-Emboss, Emboss, Emboss!

Our DT theme this week is embossing. Our sponsor, My Mum's Craft Shop, is wanting to see your embossed entries! I love dry embossing...it's a big impact for mere seconds of work.

Yeah...I'm lazy.

But I think it's also fun to make embossing the main part of your card, when possible. Here, I used SU! Soft Suede paper and took Aged Mahogany Distress Ink and stamped randomly with my blending tool. Then, I ran it through my Big Shot using Cuttlebug's Tiny Mosaic EF. Taking VersaMark and rubbing it over the top, I then put clear embossing powder all over it and heat embossed for that shiny, leather-like look. After that, it was 2 leather thongs knotted and topped with a western style brad, underneath a Copic colored pic from my SU! Wild, Wild, West set and I've got a bang up look, people!! Again....easy.

Oh, Lord-this lazy thing is working out WAY too well!

Head on over to Through the Purple Haze blog and enter to win!

Materials:

SU! Soft Suede and Basic Black paper
SU! Wild, Wild, West stamps
Cuttlebug Tiny Mosaic EF

After days of struggling with artist block, I managed to break through it today!

PAM (Pre-adderall moment) I began to use "artist constipation' and struggled with myself...almost knock-down drag-out, people...to force myself to use 'block' instead. Not only does it sound better, I convinced myself, but it allows me to use the words and phrases like "break through" and "had the urge" without ruining breakfast. You have no idea what it's like to wrestle with a brain that has yet to be harnessed by amphetamines. You're welcome.

Freshly Made Sketches challenged us with a sketch that has to be one of the most intimidating I've seen...yet, I knocked it out (another phrase I can use with the aforementioned phrase "artist block". Again, you're welcome.) without a problem.

Last week, the sketch was very workable...few elements. Yet, I spent days-uploading my card only 15 min. before the deadline-trying to figure out how to work it. This week, I almost heard the whimpers from my card-making allies, myself included, when we saw the challenge: it was a sketch that would've repelled Mr. Mephistopheles himself.

AND IT IS AWESOME!!!!

I figure the more basic a sketch is, the harder it becomes to work. But as I worked on this one, it became apparent that even though it offered more elements, it wasn't much easier because creating a CAS card that offers a whole BUNCH of options is just as hard.

Or, it could just be that last week I was blocked and this week I had the juices flowing again.

Crap. I wish I hadn't used that phrase...or word...or...sigh. How about I stay off the Internet until I can wipe my mind clean of...I mean...I...ahhhh...bye.

Friends-Pretty much everyone who reads this blog knows I'm a humor writer. not a good one, mind you, but the intent and purpose are consistent. This post is not reflective of anyone or anything...just a brain that is running amok and waiting for the sweet focus that comes with Adderall to channel my energies. FMS is an awesome site and one of the best I've found for sketches and I LOVE the fact that 'winners' are chosen based on merit instead of a drawing. Their design team rocks and I've learned more from this site when it comes to CAS since I began this hobby (obsession) 13 months ago. SO-if there is anyone who doubts my intent or is determined to believe I am slandering the sketch or the artist or this site, then I would appreciate you kissing my a** as you leave the building. HEY! I mean that with love...really! (not)  :)

Sorry for the helluva disclaimer! I've managed to get rid of most troublemakers but you never know when a new one will pop up!!! LOL
